Students will be immersed in the study of Spanish language and Hispanic culture, improving their language skills and developing an appreciation for the people, culture and history of Costa Rica. Students who have completed 1401 may take first-year Spanish class 1402 or two intermediate or advanced-level courses if they meet requirements. Introductory and intermediate Spanish, as well as Latin American Culture and Civilization and Latin American Literature will be taught by faculty from the Universidad Latina in Heredia, Costa Rica. The program also offers opportunities for students to develop a sense of themselves as part of a larger, global community in which they are active participants by requiring them to participate in service learning in the community of Heredia.
